Starting Position

Ending Position

How to use the calculator

Starting Position: Enter where your ball was before the shot. For example, if you're hitting from the tee on a 400-yard par 4, your starting position would be "Tee" at 400 yards.

Ending Position: Enter where your ball ended up after the shot. If you hit a great drive and ended up in the fairway 150 yards from the hole, your ending position would be "Fairway" at 150 yards.

Interpreting Results:

  • Positive strokes gained (e.g., +0.5): Your shot was better than the PGA Tour average
  • Negative strokes gained (e.g., -0.3): Your shot was worse than the PGA Tour average
  • Zero strokes gained (0.0): Your shot was exactly average

Example calculation

Let's say you're on a 400-yard par 4:

  • Starting: Tee, 400 yards
  • Ending: Fairway, 120 yards
  • Result: +0.4 strokes gained (excellent drive!)

This means your drive was 0.4 strokes better than what the average PGA Tour player would do from that position.

Why use strokes gained?

Traditional golf statistics like "fairways hit" or "greens in regulation" don't tell the full story. Strokes gained gives you a precise measurement of how each shot performed compared to the best players in the world, helping you identify exactly where you need to improve.

Track your strokes gained over time to see your progress and focus your practice on the areas that will give you the biggest improvement in your scores.
